The state's small-market dynamics mean less competition, but also less pressure to invest in web presence. The result is an industry-wide technical debt that leaves most contractors invisible to modern search.
Evansville is the largest contractor cluster in Wyoming with 104 businesses — yet only 26.9% have schema markup and just 62.5% have SSL. Gillette (102 contractors) fares similarly: 35.3% schema, 55.9% SSL.
Even Cheyenne, the state capital and largest city, only reaches 55.8% schema. When your biggest markets have worse web fundamentals than the national average, you're looking at a systemic gap, not a few laggards.
Wyoming has the lowest Open Graph tag rate in any dataset we analyzed. In a state where word-of-mouth and community Facebook groups are the primary way people find contractors, only 2.5% of businesses are prepared for social sharing.
When someone recommends your roofing company in the Sheridan Facebook group, your link shows up as a bare URL with no preview — no logo, no company name, no reason to click.
Wyoming's low digital maturity is actually good news for contractors willing to invest. A contractor who adds SSL, schema markup, and mobile responsiveness can leapfrog 60% of their competitors overnight.
With only 37.9% of the market using schema, getting listed in Google's rich results is low-hanging fruit. The bar is low, and the first movers will own local search.

We analyzed 597 trade contractor websites across Wyoming sourced from Google Business Profiles. Each website was audited for SSL certificates, XML sitemaps, robots.txt files, viewport meta tags, Open Graph tags, and Schema.org structured data. 418 sites had full technical audits completed. Data collected January–February 2026.
