The Ideal: A Study in Colossians
A vibrant mid-century modern brand identity contrasting worldly ideals with spiritual purpose.
For this Colossians sermon series, I developed a distinctive mid-century modern aesthetic that playfully contrasts worldly "ideals"—the American Dream's pool parties, sports cars, atomic-age furniture, and suburban achievement—with the letter's message about finding true purpose in Christ. The illustration style draws from 1950s-60s advertising and Googie architecture: bold shapes, vibrant colors, subtle textures, and optimistic compositions.
Each spot illustration represents a different cultural ideal (success, comfort, entertainment, status) that the sermon series examines through the lens of Paul's letter. The game-show wheel logo ties together the theme—spinning between earthly pursuits while pointing toward something greater.
This visual language extends across sermon slides, social graphics, print materials, and environmental elements.
